Gait Analysis in Great Dunmow & White Roding
Advanced Gait & Biomechanical Analysis
Understand how you move and how your feet interact with the ground. Using detailed gait and pressure analysis, we can identify movement patterns and areas of increased loading that may be contributing to pain, discomfort or reduced performance.
This information helps guide treatment, footwear advice and, where appropriate, the prescription of custom orthotics.
Understanding How You Move
Your feet form the foundation for the way you stand, walk and run. Changes in foot mechanics can influence the way forces travel through the ankles, knees, hips and lower back.
A gait assessment can help us look more closely at:
• Foot pressure and loading patterns
• Walking and running mechanics
• Left-to-right differences
• Foot and ankle movement
• Lower-limb alignment
• Areas of excessive pressure
• How your movement may relate to pain or recurring injury
The aim is not simply to look at your feet, but to understand how your whole body moves.
When Can Gait Analysis Help?
Gait analysis may be useful if you are experiencing recurring or persistent problems affecting the feet or lower limbs, or if you simply want a better understanding of your movement.
This may include:
• Foot or heel pain
• Plantar fasciitis
• Achilles or ankle problems
• Shin pain
• Knee pain
• Hip or lower-back discomfort
• Recurrent running or sporting injuries
• Uneven shoe wear
• Difficulty finding comfortable footwear
It can also be useful for people looking to improve comfort during walking, running, work or sport.

Custom 3D-Printed Orthotics by Materialise in Great Dunmow & White Roding
Where your assessment indicates that additional support may be beneficial, custom orthotics can be individually designed around your foot mechanics and movement pattern. Rather than using a standard off-the-shelf insert, your orthotics are created using information gathered during your biomechanical assessment.
From Assesment to Finished Orthotics
1. Assessment & Gait Analysis
We discuss your symptoms, medical history, footwear and activities before assessing your movement and foot mechanics.
2. Digital Analysis & Prescription
Your assessment helps determine whether orthotics are appropriate and what type of support would best suit you.
3. Custom Manufacture
Your prescription is digitally designed and manufactured using specialist 3D-printing technology.
Orthotics Are Only Part of the Picture
Orthotics are not automatically recommended simply because somebody has an unusual gait pattern. Where appropriate, your assessment may also lead to advice regarding footwear, exercises, activity modification or osteopathic treatment. The aim is to recommend what is clinically appropriate for you rather than simply prescribe an orthotic.
4. Fitting & Review
We check the fit of your orthotics, make sure they are suitable for your footwear and advise you on gradually introducing them.
